History

LogoGueishan was formerly known as Gueilunshe, which originated from a hill in the front of the historical Mercy Buddha Temple of Shou Shan Rock built in 7th year of the Chien-Lun Period of the Qing Dynasty and nominated as the national three grade monument.  The hill looked like a turtle in shape, and halfway up the hill it looked like the head of the turtle.  The Temple was located behind the rear right leg of the turtle-like hill and, therefore, the top of the hill was called Gueilunding, while the area around the old township office was known as Gueilunkou.  The jurisdiction of this Township was collectively referred to as “Gueilunshe” where Pingpu tribes and Keitago Lan tribes were gathered and this is why “shan” in “Guieshan” originated in terms of the pronunciation of “she” in Chinese.  Now this Township is uniformly known as “Gueishan”.
