The Guei-Shan Township original name came from the Mercy Buddha Temple of Shou Shan rock as the national graded third monument. Since the hill looked like a turtle in shape and was named it therefore. Another opinion of view is referred to as Gueilunshe where Ping-Pu tribes and Keitago Lan tribes were assemble then they made the “shan” in Gueishan. Yet, Guei-Shan Township got its name since the area used to have the hills and platforms which the area looks like a turtle from the sky.

The total area of Guei-Shan Township is 72 square kilometers which 7.5 kilometers in width and 9.6 kilometers in length. Guei-Shan Township, very close to Taipei metropolitan area, is located on the northeast side of Taoyuan County next to the Lin-Ko Township, Tai-Shan Township, Hsin-Chuang City, Shu-Lin City, and Ying-Ko Township. Without saying, Guei-Shan is a rural township in northeastern Tao-Yuan County as well as a major portal.

The major residents of Guei-Shan Township including the Hakka, Min-Nam, Mainland and aboriginal tribes have settled here.
Since the Guei-Shan Township is full of technology-based companies with a lot of the high quality universities, it attracts a lot of people to find jobs or study here. It can be as high as 100 thousand people commute daily not including those who seek health care service from Chang Gung Medical Hospital.

The Guei-Shan Township population reaches more than one hundred and thirty thousand recently. The population growth increase significantly which is one step away from becoming county-level city with minimum of one hundred fifty thousand resident people. Once Guei-Shan Township becomes a county-level city, more constructions will be expected to make it a modern city with international vision.
