Central Police College was founded in 1936 by merging the
Police High School, Ministry of the Interior and Chechiang
Provincial Police School in Jhanjyunsing of the town of
Maqun in Nanjing. The college had followed the National
Government to move to Chongqing. After the triumph of the
Anti-Japanese War, the college was moved back to Nanjing
outside Guanghua City-Gate. Besides Nanjing, six more
branches were established in Xi'an, Guangchou, Dihua,
Chongqing, Beijing and Shenyang, as well as two officer
squads in Shanghai and Taiwan. The college flourished for a
time with a student body of more than 12,000 from the
Nanjing headquarters, various branches and officer squads. |

In
May 1954, the college resumed classes and regular courses
continued. In 1957, with approval from Ministry of the
Interior and Ministry of Education, a four-year college was
established for regular courses. In 1970, the graduate
school offering an MA degree in police administration was
established. Since 1974, female students were admitted to
enter the college. As well, research institute and
education of regular courses, seminars for the promotion of
police in-service and professional seminars were held. In
order to accelerate international friendship and
cooperation, the college not only admits foreign students,
but also cooperates with foreign universities, exchanges
teachers and students, holds academic seminars and takes
part in international academic organizations and activities
proactively. Approved by Legislative Yuan on Dec 1995, the
school was formally renamed Central Police University. |

Since its establishment in 1936, the school has been
enjoying a long history of over sixty years. The source of
the school can be traced to the Capital Police School in
Lijhih established in Guangxu 27th year in the Qing dynasty
(1901). |

Former president Chiang Kai-shek took up the first
presidency of the school. There had been 15 presidents and
Te-hui Tsai is the incumbent president. There are now 1556
students in total, 13 departments, 153 full-time teachers,
15 students in Doctor Program, 192 students in Master
Program, 842 undergraduates, 41 students in Junior College,
384 students in the Two-Year Program, and 82 post graduate
students. The 13 departments are: Department of Police
Administration, Department of Criminal Investigation,
Department of Forensic Science, Department of Public
Security, Department of Crime Prevention & Correction,
Department of Fire Science, Department of Traffic Science,
Department of Information Management, Department of Foreign
Affairs Police, Department of Border Police, Department of
Administrative Management, Department of Maritime Police and
Department of Law. |
